Paks – Ürge field, Forest of Imsós
Next to the west side of the town, there is the Ürge field, with open sandy lawns, a complexum with smaller-bigger mound lanes and moorland spots. In April different colors of pygmy irises can be found in spots, which is definitely an incredible experience. Valuable sandfields in little spots can be also found in south - south east directions, until the Danube bank and until the Nuclear Power Plant. In this scenery sometimes there are Stipa borysthenicas (which is a perennial bunchgrass species) in May.
Not far from the north-west side of the Ürge field, there are the moorlands of Cseresznyés, where we can find a lot of protected plant species. One of these species is the marsh grass of Parnassus (Parnassia palustris), which is strongly rarefied in our country. Also here we can admire the dark blue flowers of the marsh gentian in the end of summer.
The wonders of nature - for hiking lovers
Nowadays it is a cliché that everyone needs recreation and relaxation after the stressful and noisy weekdays. Hiking is one of the simplest way of relaxation and entertainment, we can temporary forget about everyday problems as we are walking in the fresh air surrounded by relaxing nature sounds, listening to twitter of birds and feeling the breeze among trees.
If you want a getaway from the city noises for either a week or just an hour, you will definitely find something here in our town, from hiking to cycling. Here you can find some good ideas and offers to choose from.
Ürge educational trail
This educational trail was opened in 2013, it is located in the border of the town. You can visit the trail by a hike leader or independently, following the information boards or with the help of a guidebook. It is approachable by foot from the town, through the Ürge field, visitors get acquainted with the natural values of the sandy bleak. During our trip we probably meet with gophers (in hungarian gopher is ürge, the field was named after them). Also we can see the members of the bleak’s interesting wild life, like plants, insects and birds.

Approachable: independently, by car from Paks. We reach the area through Kishegyi street, next to the swimming pool, across the overpass of the M6 highway.

Useful tips: It is important to dress according to the weather and choose confortable hiking boots, also use protection against mosquitos and ticks.
