The winemakers of Paks channeled their cellars into yellow soil, which is perfect for storing wine and they built houses around cellars. They used the earth, which was exploited from the building of the cellars, to made walls for houses or gained loam from it. This is why they named the square to Sárgödör.
There is a long history of winemaking in Paks, and the town take a pride in famous wines like siller. In case of siller wine, one important fermentation phase is the time of soaking on skin, which is longer than rose wines, but shorter than red wines. In the meantime the skin of the grape give color to the must, which is during fermentation, but it hasn’t bother it with strong and acid tannins yet. So the siller is a light, fresh, fruity wine, which has richer and spicier flavour, than rosé wines.
