Museum of Nuclear Energetics

In 7th of March, 2012 the Museum of Nuclear Energetics was established. The collection of the Museum has more than one decades of history. Documents in connection with building and operating the Nuclear Power Plant have been collecting since 1992, according to Chief Executive Officer’s decision.

On the score of feedbacks from the members of The Hungarian Museum of Science and Technology, earlier in time there was not any museum in Hungary, which was collected material memories about spread and use of nuclear energetics in our country. According to this, the collection of the plant’s history needed to be improved as a Museum rank. This permission was granted in 1999, and later in 2002, with the help of the then Chief Executive Officer, they found an adequate location to the collection. The Museum of Nuclear Energetics became a national specialist museum in 2010.

If you visit the Museum of Nuclear Energetics, you can get acquainted with equipments used in the primary and secondary circuits of the plant, you can try the radiation control gate, the dosimeter and the screwdriver machine.

The 2000 square metre exhibition room has four different thematic part. On the left side there are two exhibition cases with souvenirs and advertising objects, awards in connection with the history of the plant and also gadgets used in the area of the plant sorted by different structures. The big equipments are in the right side. In a separate room there are the supplier equipments and an old simulation computer, which was used to train officers in block duty, operators and block operator staff in 1990’s. There is also a gallery with reliquias of six institutions belong to the national coverage of the museum. These are the Faculty of Nuclear Technology of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Faculty of Physics of University of Debrecen, the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Atomic Energy Research Institute of Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Gamma Technical Corporation and the Public Limited Company for Radioactive Waste Management. Also here you can find the periodic exhibitions since 2014.

Of course they have not forget about students. The Museum of the Nuclear Energetics organise museum pedagogy programs time to time for students in every age-group, so they can get aquainted with the amazing world of physics. You can find more information about this and also about periodic exhibitions at the MVM Nuclear Power Plant Ltd.’s homepage (www.atomeromu.hu/en). Visiting the museum with a group is possible, but previous check in is needed (on the following link: https://latogato.atomeromu.hu/). The museum provides guided tours for groups.
